Bear chaos at Braehead

-

A‘Pay Your Age’day at teddy bear giant Build-A-Bear descended into chaos after families queued for seven hours for bargain toys.

Parents spent hours queuing in a bid to get their hands on a teddy priced at the age of their child.

But kids were left disappointed after the event turned into chaos when thousands of people descended on stores across the country.

Shoppers arrived as early as 6am but were turned away by 11am after the event received an‘unexpected turnout’.

Shocked parents arrived to find queues snaking around shopping centres including Braehead in Renfrew, Silverburn and Buchanan Galleries.

Many parents said their children had been left disappointed after being turned away at the door.

Gina Jones said:“Lots of disappointed children at Braehead being stopped from going into the shop.”

“We’ve been stood in the queue for four hours now and we might get turned away at the door.”

Dad Robert Kelly said:“On the way home from build a bear with a very disappointed child.

“They’ve closed the queue, so don’t head in if you aren’t already there!”

Customers said those who were being turned away were issued with vouchers for £12 off.

A spokesperson for Build-A-Bear said: “Locations has been overwhelming and unprecedented in our 21-year history.

“The crowds have greatly exceeded our expectations and, per local authorities, queues are at capacity and we cannot accept additional guests due to extreme crowds and safety concerns.

“We understand our guests are disappointed, and we are working to address the situation.

“We will reach out directly to our valued guests as soon as possible.”
