Figures from National Records of Scotland show there are 17,278 men in the Paisley area today who live as single adult households.

However, men on their own will increase to 24,840 by the year 2041, equivalent to an overall increase of 50 per cent in lonely hearts’ fellas over the next two decades.

The population projections map out big changes in the average Buddie’s home as more and more people are living longer, families are having fewer children and more people are choosing to live on their own.

While the number of women living alone, 17,930 today, is also expected climb to 21,773, equal to a rise of only 21 per cent, over the same period.

This shows a big difference in the number of solo women when compared to single men in Paisley.

But the gender difference could be explained by women’s greater life expectancy as well as living longer than their partners.

The report says: “One person households are projected to become the most common type. This partly due to Scotland’s population ageing as older people are more likely to live alone or in smaller households.”

While the number of households in the Paisley area is expected to rocket by 13 per cent over the next two decades, a new report reveals.

Renfrewshire’s households will climb to 94,958 by the year 2041, up from 85,588 this year, according to records’ bosses data.

The report adds: “The average number of people in a household is project to decrease, as people live i n c reasingly in smaller households or alone.

“This causes households to increase much faster than the population.”

And couples, listed as two-adult households in Renfrewshire, are expected to climb from 22,913 today to 23,514, equal to a rise of only four per cent by 2041.

This means around one quarter of all homes in the Paisley area will consist of two adults but no children.

However data shows the number of one parent/one-child homes in Renfrewshire is expected to increase from 6,320 today to 7,801 in the same period, equal to a rise of 27 per cent.

But overall analysis reveals Paisley will have one of the smallest average household sizes in Scotland equivalent to 1.88 persons per home by 2041.
