Let’s dance ... studio plan for retail park
Ambitious new proposal for industrial units
Ambitious firms have their sets site on moving into a retail park near Paisley town centre.
Renfrewshire Council has been asked for permission to transform two units into a gym and dance studio.
Owners want to move into vacant spaces at the centre in Wallneuk Road.
Planners signalled their support for the companies and recommended designs be approved in a report to the local authority.
It stated: “The applications seeks consent for a change of use from an industrial use to a gym for a premises situated in Greenlaw Industrial Estate.
“The property is within a small industrial estate, surrounded by similar units.
“The building is finished in facing brick and cladding. “There is a car parking area to the front of the unit.
“As the proposed development consists of a change of use from an industrial use, to a gym, the principle would generally be acceptable as it would not conflict with the nature of the area.
“It is considered that the proposal will not have any significant impact on the neighbouring uses within the estate, that is industrial in nature.
“Allowing the proposed change of use will not set any undesirable precedent, nor introduce an incompatible use with surrounding land which would adversely affect the character of the area.
“It is considered that the proposal would not have a significantly detrimental impact on the residential amenity of the area or harm the character and amenity of the area.
“It is recommended that the proposal be granted.”
The gym and dance studio will move into the retail park off Renfrew Road, if the proposals are granted.
Tradesmen, including joiners and glaziers, and the region’s community service department, already work from the centre.
Substantial development has been announced in the area.
The grounds of a former bowling alley in front of the units is being transformed into a shopping park.
Canadian coffee giants Tim Hortons, homeware firm The Range and discount supermarket Lidl have already been confirmed for the site.
Both are expected to open later this year.
