Panto’s sure to get a warm reception
Renfrewshire may be basking in fantastic summer sunshine but a group of actors are definitely Freezin.
The cast and crew from Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group are deep in rehearsals for their 55th anniversary show this winter.
Freezin, The Story of the Snow Queen will bring laughter, song and a little bit of sparkle to Johnstone Community Hub.
The chilling tale of the Snow Queen ( Princess Elsa) and Princess Anna, battling between good and evil under the reign of a sinister force – the dreaded Jack Frost.
The principal characters have been cast with Barry Orr taking on Jack Frost, Kirsty Reid as the Snow Queen, Shiranne Burns as Princess Anna and Patch, the village odd-job man played by Daniel McDonald.
Nanny Annie, mother to Patch and admirer of royalty, will be played by Craig Inglis; Shaun McBride is King Bumble; Hestion Harriott, the palace chef, is played by Ross White, while Frosty the magical snowman is played by Mhairi Heron.
A spokesman said: “Johnstone will have the coolest panto in town, a panto like no other.
“It’s packed full of sparkling costumes, dazzling dance routines and wonderful songs.
“Johnstone Phoenix is back bigger and better than ever. You won’t want to miss it.”
Resident director Carol McLaughlan says she is really excited to be producing and directing a brand new innovative pantomime of a modern tale with a magical twist.
Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group was founded in 1963 and is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.
It normally performs two productions each year, a musical in spring and a family pantomime at Christmas.
There is also a youth theatre group, which was founded in 1993.
Curtain up on Freezin is on Saturday, December 1, and the show will run till Saturday, December 8, at Johnstone Town Hall.
The evening performances are at 7.30pm, with the Saturday matinee starting at 2pm.
