Road is closed for digging works

A town centre road was closed to traffic yesterday after a leading contractor moved in.

The KN Group shut off Townhead Terrace, next to the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley, to carry out digging work.

Prior notificati­on of the closure was not mentioned on the roadworks website Tell Me Scotland.

“Wo rks by u t i l i t y companies aren’t always listed,” a spokesman for Renfrewshi­re Council said.

One Paisley worker told the Paisley Daily Express that the works had started early on.

“I noticed it this morning an they’ve been there since,” he said.

“But I don’t know what it’s about.”

The KN Group carries out telecommun­ications, transport infrastruc­ture, power and multi- media installati­on work for a number of clients.

These include Vodafone, Openreach, BT and Virgin Media.

Further roadworks are coming up in Paisley in the next couple of weeks.

Renfrewshi­re Council is to close off the eastbound lane of Canal Street from Maxwellton St reet to Causeyside Street to allow for roadsurfac­ing work.

Vehicles left on the road during the works will be moved out of the area, according to Renfrewshi­re Council. Emergency access will be maintained.

The alternativ­e route for vehicles will be Maxwellton Street, Broomlands Street, We l l m e a d ow St re e t , High Street, Storie Street, Witherspoo­n Street, New Street, and into Causeyside Street.

The restrictio­n will be in force from 7pm on Friday, July 27, till 8pm on Sunday, July 29.

And in Renfrew, Sandy Road from Cockels Loan to Newmains Road will also be closed to allow resurfacin­g work to be carried our from Monday, July 23, until Friday, July 27.

The alternativ­e routes will be Newmains Road, Paisley Road, Cockels Loan or Cockels Loan, Nevis Road, Newmains Road.

As with Canal Street, Paisley, any vehicles left with in the area during the restricted period will be removed.

A s p o k e s ma n for Renfrewshi­re Council said it was expected yesterday’s work in Townhead Terrace would be finished by the end of the day.
