Stay on alert over bogus workmen
Householder ripped off by dodgy gardeners
Paisley police have warned homeowners to be on guard after bogus workmen were reported in the area.
A dodgy work crew in a blue transit van made off with £20 and a wheelbarrow after carrying out substandard work at a home in Sunnylaw Avenue.
The incident was reported by the 49- year- old householder on Saturday and now cops want people to be aware.
It is understood the three unscrupulous gardeners carried out some work but, when challenged over the quality, left saying they work return later – but never reappeared.
One of the men from the blue van is described as white, 6ft tall, with ginger hair and red trousers and is said to have spoken with an Edinburgh accent.
Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, has called on residents to contact the police if they see the suspicious vehicle. She told the Paisley Daily Express: “A 49- year- old woman reported three workmen attending her property in Sunnylaw Avenue, on Saturday, July 14, offering to carry out garden work.
“She gave them £20 as a deposit, but when she challenged the men on the standard of their work, they made off, taking the victim’s wheelbarrow with them.
“We are very keen to speak to these individuals and would also like to warn other householders not to engage their services.
She added: “I would like to urge people to get in touch with the police immediately if they see a 64-plate blue transit van in their area.
“If any worker is legitimate, they will have no problem with the police coming to check them out, so please if you have any suspicions at all please contact us.
“It is rare that legitimate companies will tout for business door to door, so please be aware and if something doesn’t seem right, call the police.”
If you have any information, or you see the blue transit van, you should call police in Paisley on 101.
