Lisa Kowalski has won a spot in the Mayor of London Gigs10 busking competition.

The event sees talented performers take to the streets of London to perform live and gather votes from the public and a judging panel.

Prizes up for grabs include Gibson guitars, recording sessions at a London studio, industry advice and access to exclusive music industry events, paid gigs and many other career development opportunities.

Lisa’s award-winning song Hearts of Gold is about her experiences busking in Paisley from the age of 14.

It includes the lyrics: “And the streets are paved with hearts of gold, as the people stop to listen and appreciate the stories that I’ve told.”

Now Lisa will head to the capital for five days on Saturday, which is also International Busking Day.

She’ll start off her round of live performances with an official busking slot at Westminster underground station.

The live competition performance period runs from Saturday to August 5, but Lisa will be dashing back up to Scotland to perform at Mugstock, Butefest and a charity gig.

She said: “I will be singing my heart out in London and continuing to raise awareness of music from Paisley.

“Although we didn’t win UK City of Culture last year, I’m still doing my bit to draw attention to the town and to the wider Scottish grassroots music scene.”

The Gigs10 winners are decided by a judging panel, but there is also a wild card act that makes it to the final based on the votes of the public, both those who see her perform and those who vote online.

Lisa would be very grateful for votes from her local supporters as she competes in the over-18 category against performers from all over the UK.

The public can vote by visiting London. gov.uk/gigs and looking up her picture/ profile on the web page.

Voting opens on Saturday, and you can vote once each day throughout the competition.

After the competition, Lisa plans to return to Paisley to start recording her second EP and independently release her next single.
