Burgh squad takes shape nicely McKim salutes new duo

- Craig Ritchie

Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim believes new signings Kerr Christie and Gary Downey can help the side in their promotion push.

Former St Mirren, Morton and Dumbarton midfielder Christie finally put pen to paper on Tuesday following a trial period with the Keanie Park side. The 33-year-old returns to the Burgh for a second spell.

Meanwhile, 28- year- old midfielder Downey arrives from respected Paisley amateur outfit Alba Thistle.

The duo join a host of new additions for McKim’s side as he gears them up to challenge at the right end of the table.

And he has welcomed the duo with open arms as they join the likes of strikers Ryan Officer and Kieron Magennis.

McKim said: “We are pleased to get these deals over the line. We were keen to strengthen in the engine room and the addition of Kerr and Gary has done this.

“Kerr’s great experience will be a boost for everyone at the club and I expect it will help out our younger players significantly. His calmness on the ball and ability to retain possession will aid our playing style immensely.

“Gary is a natural athlete who has developed into a fine footballer. His fitness levels and work rate will be a big defensive asset to us as we look to bring a high intensity game to our opponents next season.

“On the ball, he likes to play and bring the best out of his team mates.”

McKim has also added former Barrhead YFC Under-21 player Chris Burns to the ranks in recent days.

And he reckons the driving midfielder will be able to add to his side’s style of play.

McKim added: “I’ve known Chris since he was a young boy and I’m delighted to be able to welcome him to the club. We tracked him closely towards the end of last season while he played for Barrhead.

“He is a creative midfielder who also has plenty or power and we can see him adding another dimension to the team with his style of play. I’m confident Chris will be a creative and goal-scoring force for us next season.”

The club have also confirmed their 2018/19 season tickets are now available at £50 for adults and £25 for concessions/kids (over 12). Under 12s go free.
