Police hunt for firebugs

-

Detectives suspect a gang of kids may have been behind a deliberate fire that destroyed a garden shed.

Fire crews raced to a blaze in the garden of a Foxbar Road close at around 6.35pm on Wednesday.

It is understood that three boys were seen setting a fire at a hedge nearby which spread to the outbuilding.

When officers arrived on the scene the young firebugs were nowhere to be seen and the blaze was well established.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported as a result and the closest flat was unoccupied at the time.

A number of similar incidents had been reported in the area over the last few months which officers believe may also have been caused by youths.

Police Scotland are now appealing for information into the incident and highlighted the dangers of starting fire, especially in warmer weather.

Detective Inspector Ross MacDonald, of Paisley CID, said: “We are investigating a wilful fireraising in Foxbar Road, Paisley at around 6.35pm on Wednesday evening.

“We believe three boys may have set fire to a hedge which then spread to a shed.

“I would ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to come forward and speak to the police.”

He added: “Starting fires, especially at this time of the year when the water is hotter, is extremely dangerous and can have potentially fatal consequences.

“During hot, dry weather conditions fires can spread very quickly so we would like to warn people of the dangers.

“I would also urge parents to be aware of where your children are and what they are doing when they are out of the house.”

If you have any information you should contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
