Mercy Bus is just the ticket for Paisley this month

-

Paisley’s Roman Catholics are going on the buses.

They will, for the second year in a row, hop on the Mercy Bus that will park up at the town’s war memorial at the beginning of next month.

While on board they will be able to take part in Mass and take Communion.

The bus is coming back to town following the success of last year’s event, which saw people get involved in the event put on the road by Friends of Divine Mercy Scotland.

Organiser Helen Border said: “Inspired by the call from Pope Francis to ‘go out to the people and take the church to them’, we’ve decided to do just that, with a church on wheels which, between Monday, July 30, to Saturday, August 4 will be in a different town each day.

“Last year was so successful that we are hoping now people know about us they will come aboard and experience the joy of the Gospel.”

More than 200 people boarded the Mercy Bus last time and more than 1,000 miraculous medals and Divine Mercy chaplets were given to the people on the streets of Scotland.

Rev Joe Burke will open the tour in Houston Square, on Monday, July 30, 11am.

And it will roll into Paisley on Saturday, August 4, at 2pm.

Helen added: “There will be priests hearing confessions on the top deck of the Mercy Bus and literature, tea, coffee and home baking available downstairs.

“Everyone is welcome.

“In our world today people find forgiveness hard to accept and to give. “We cannot love unless we can forgive. “Taking the church to the people shows them that the Lord loves and cares and wants them to return to him.

“People beat themselves up with guilt because they think that they cannot be forgiven for what they have done.

“Stepping on board the bus could be the first step in changing their lives for the better and leaving the guilt on the bus.”
