A Barrhead hairstylist has proved she is cut above the rest after being selected to attend a mentoring scheme for young talent in London.

Lesley Far rell of F& M Hairdressing is one of only 10 hairdressers from across the UK chosen to attend the prestigious TIGI Inspirational Youth bootcamp in September.

The mentoring programme is now in its 14th year and sees talented young hairstylists from across the UK come together to learn new skills.

Every hairstylist in the UK can apply but only a handful are chosen to attend the highlyanticipated bootcamp at Bed Head Studio in London.

Prior to being selected, Lesley went head to head with the other finalists at the TIGI Academy in London.

Lesley was required to cut and colour a head-block under the watchful eyes of the TIGI Creative Team members, before presenting the finished result to a panel of judges including Anthony Mascolo.

Lesley’s stylish skills blew the judges away and she was asked to return an official member of the TIGI Inspirational Youth Team and return for the famed bootcamp.

Once there she will learn from the best in the business, including TIGI European creative director, Akos Bodi, TIGI European session director Maria Kovacs and TIGI Global Academy technical director Warren Boodaghians.

The mentorship programme also includes intense training in classic and advanced cut and colouring, session styling, future fashion forecasting, presentation skills and a model casting and photo shoot.

The highly-competitive scheme has seen many of its former students go on to launch their own career in global hairdressing as session stylists, educators and salon owners.

F& M salon owner, Brian MacMillan, said he was delighted when he heard that employee Lesley had successfully made the cut.

He said: “It’s a huge honour, not only for Lesley herself but for F&M as a salon.

“We’ve been in the town since 2001 and it’s been an exciting journey.

“Only earlier this year we moved to a bigger and better premises and events like this just prove our hard work has been worth it.”

Lesley has worked at the Cross Arthurlie Street salon for just 12 months but has already proved to her collegues and clients that she has a big future cut out for her.

Brian said: “We’re so proud to have her as part of our team and seeing her make it to the final ten – and one of only three from Scotland – is amazing.”
