It’s showtime in Paisley

-

The weekend saw Paisley welcoming The Orchestra of Scottish Opera to Seedhill Playing Fields. They performed in a huge marquee in the fields, which was practically in my back door.

Unfortunately for me I had already booked my week’s holiday in Benidorm and missed the performance. I could have probably disposed of the ticket fee and sat in my back garden to enjoy the performance.

I had booked the holiday earlier in the year to ensure that we could count on a bit of sun.

Little did I know that we would be enjoying one of the best summers since 1976, a perfect backdrop for the events in Paisley – opera, chasing Lego dinosaurs, Sma’Shot Day and the gala days.

Yet you would be surprised how many people in Paisley don’t come in to the town for local events.

There are efforts to make Paisley a destination for gigs. I’ve seen The Selector, Big Country and The Skids in the town hall.

There have been other big names coming to the town and our profile has been enhanced with the City of Culture bid, something that is very useful when attracting people to the town. This Positive Paisley vision is continuing and has a snowball effect.

It is very easy to pick on the things we don’t like. It’s more difficult to appreciate the good things, because we see and experience them every day without giving them a thought. If we don’t shout about the positive things in town we can’t expect anyone else to?
