Sole Lib Dem should be standing up for her constituents – not SNP

-

It was bizarre to read the letter from Renfrewshire’s sole Liberal Democrat representative attempting to attack the Labour Party over the threats to the Citizens Advice Bureau in Renfrewshire, despite the decision on funding being made by the SNP-run council.

We have heard directly from staff at the CAB that the threat to its funding is causing stress for the staff and its users.

The funding cut from the SNP-led Renfrewshire Council would result in job losses for a start.

Ms McCartin and her party were the co-architects of the Tory austerity agenda which forced through the bedroom tax, cuts in the taxes for the wealthiest and extreme public sector cuts.

This is just one of the reasons why she sits alone in Renfrewshire Council as the only Lib Dem councillor. The people of Renfrewshire have punished the Lib Dems for their part in austerity and for being the bedfellows in the 2007-2011 SNP-led coalition in the council that increased charges for families and the elderly, cut services, closed libraries and cut free school buses.

The same administration, of which Eileen McCartin was a member, tried to replace teachers with volunteers and had to back down after strong parent and Labour Party opposition.

We have heard enough from the SNP and their apologists defending cuts and closures, most recently with claims that Royal Alexandra Hospital ward 15 was safe.

It’s time Eileen McCartin stopped standing up for the SNP and starting standing up for her constituents.
