SAINTS GET READY TO DO IT ALL AGAIN

Ladies face a tough fight for place in main draw

- Craig Ritchie St Mirren have a rich history in the Scottish Cup

St Mirren Basketball have learned their Scottish Cup fate as they prepare to battle it out for glory yet again.

Both the club’s men’s and women’s sides were in the hat for the first round draw as basketballscotland broadcast it live on Facebook.

In the only preliminary game in the women’s draw, St Mirren West College Scotland and last year’s runners up, Lady Rocks, will battle it out for an opportunity to play in the main draw.

This means one of the competition’s favourites will bow out before the tournament proper has even begun, and the winner of that game will go on to face Glasgow Fever.

Elsewhere, West Lothian Wolves will face City of Edinburgh in the first round of the Women’s Scottish Cup.

Sony Centre Fury will play host to Glasgow University in the opening round, with an allEdinburgh match-up between Polonia Phoenix and Edinburgh University rounding off the 2019 draw.

The Saints men’s side will be delighted to go straight into the main draw, where they will face newly- promoted Edinburgh Lions at the Lagoon.

The men’s draw will see two preliminary games take place with Ayrshire Tornadoes and Perth Phoenix facing off, while Pleasance and Portlethen Panthers go head-to-head for a place in the main draw.

In the main draw, the winner of Ayrshire Tornadoes and Perth Phoenix will play Highland Bears.

Last year’s SBC Scottish Cup Winners, City of Edinburgh, will take on the winner of Pleasance and Portlethen Panthers.

Glasgow University will be at home to Boroughmuir Blaze, while Edinburgh University will play host to Dunfermline Reign in the opening round.

And West Lothian Wolves travel north to face the Granite City Grizzlies before Stirling Knights face Glasgow Storm and Heriot Watt University will take on Sony Centre Fury.

St Mirren will play West Lothian Wolves in the Under- 18 men’s tournament, while the Under-18 women face Lady Rocks away from home.

In the Under- 16s draw, the men take on Sony Centre Fury in Paisley, before the women face a lengthy away trip to Inverness.
