Conference first for university
Paisley’s uni is to host a major conference for the first time.
The University of the West of Scotland will hold the fifth international Material Science and Smart Materials (MSSM) conference next week.
The aim of the event is to provide a forum for both researchers and practitioners around the world to present papers on recent developments in the fields of materials characterisation, design, development manufacturing and application.
Uni bosses say the conference will provide a platform for presenting research papers by internationally recognised experts and young scientists.
The event will see more than 130 delegates from countries such as the USA, Denmark, Sweden, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, China, Korea, Turkey, Romania, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and India in attendance.
Keynote presentations will be delivered by Professor Ian Baker; Sherman Fairchild, Professor of Engineering and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Dartmouth University; Professor Nathan Newman, Lawrence Professor Chair of Solid State Sciences at Arizona State University; and Professor Des Gibson, Director of University of the West of Scotland’s Institute of Thin Films, Sensors and Imaging.
Professor Abdul Olabi, Director of the UWS Institute of Engineering and Energy Technologies, is the Chair of the Organising Committee for the conference.
