Big cash boost for community charity
Masons donate £750 to Mungo Foundation
A community group is benefitting from a weighty funding boost.
The Mungo Foundation, which offers a range of communitybased care and support services to people with learning difficulties, has received a cheque donation of £750.
Staff and service users at the Johnstone centre, celebrated receiving the whopping donation on Friday.
The charity received the generous cash boost after a local masonic group rallied together to raise the funds.
The money was raised from a race fun day, hosted by Provincial Grand Lodge Renfrewshire East (PGLRE) – the oldest masonic lodge in Renfrewshire.
The event, held in May, welcomed friends and family to enjoy a fun-filled raffle and race night.
Proceeds on the day, plus donations from sponsors, resulted in the generous funding boost.
PGLRE donated the money to the Elderslie Project branch of the charity.
The Elderslie Project provides around the clock care and support for 10 adults with severe to profound physical and learning disabilities.
The project comprises two purpose built bungalows, known as the Cherrywood Bungalows, that give service users the chance to live in a safe and homely environment within the local community.
Established in 2004, the project was formed in order to provide professional support to those with learning disabilities who may also have a physical impairment.
The centre offers a multimedia approach to care and supports their service users through activities including music therapy, art and dance classes, swimming with hydrotherapy and day trips.
Steven Aitken, a member of the PGLRE who was part of the fundraising efforts, said he was delighted that the Cherrywood Bungalows were chosen to receive the cash sum.
He said: “It was a great feeling that our local organisation could give back to a charity that does so much in the community.
“A lot of people don’t particularly know about the Cherrywood bungalows but it’s great that we can raise money for them and highlight the work of a lesser known local charity. They were so pleased to receive the donation and said they planned to use the money to improve the garden and the sensory room at the bungalows.
“It was a great feeling to be able to donate the money – that’s what we are here for. It’s all about helping.”
