Things are stepping up a gear for folks at St Vincent’s Hospice.

The organisation was handed over a bumper cheque, raised at the recent CarFest in Paisley.

An impressive £6,294 has been donated to the Howwood hospice.

Chief executive of St. Vincent’s Hospice Kate Lennon said: “The event raised £6,294 which is an absolutely fantastic amount, and will make a huge difference to people and families who need our care and support.

Thousands of people packed into Paisley town centre for the fifth St Vincent’s Hospice CarFest at the start of the summer.

Kate added: “CarFest is one of the absolute highlights of our calendar, and this year was no exception. Despite the day starting off with heavy rain, Paisley’s motor enthusiasts and families came out in force to support St. Vincent’s, see some of the incredible cars on display and enjoy the entertainment.

“Luckily enough as the day went on, the sun began to shine and it turned into an absolutely fantastic day.”

The family event that took place on June 16 was organised by MaxSafe and sponsored by Paisley First.

The popular event in Paisley town centre saw muscle cars, supercars and emergency vehicles on show at spots around the town.

As well as treats for motor enthusiasts, there was lots of family- friendly fun with fairground rides, children’s entertainment, live music, staffs, tombola and a prize raffle.

Paisley First chairman, Graeme McGowan, said: “We were thrilled to be supporting the hospice and the CarFest team in bringing this great event to Paisley town centre for a second year.

“Paisley town centre comes alive when events like this are organised in the town and we are grateful to all those who braved the rain to support the event.

“It’s great to see so many people having a good day out in Paisley and enjoying everything the town has to offer.”

Willie Chrystal of MaxSafe Solutions said: “It’s great to think that a small idea to have a car show in the grounds of St Vincent’s Hospice with around 25 cars and bikes has grown to what it is today.

“Five years on and we had more than 100 vehicles lining the streets of Paisley. You have to recognise the effort put in by the car owners who bring their cars along from as far as Aberdeen.

“A lot of hard work from everyone involved and we are already looking forward to CarFest 2019.”
