It’s D-Day for students as results are revealed
Call helpline if you need advice, say politicians
Today’s the day for hundreds of students across Renfrewshire to have their exam results are revealed.
The tradition of waiting for the postie to deliver the envelope is long gone with most opting to receive their results by text or email.
The Skills Development Scotland’s annual exam results helpline will be open from 8am till 8pm today and tomorrow then from 9am till 5pm up until Wednesday, August 15.
It offers advice, information and support for young people and their parents.
Qualified careers advisers are on hand to help young people who may not have received the results they were hoping for and those who have done better than anticipated.
They also have access to information on UCAS course vacancies at colleges and universities, confirmation and clearing, advice about modern and foundation apprenticeships and employment or volunteering.
Post-results information for students and parents is also available at myworldofwork.co.uk and apprenticeships.scot
Renfrewshire North and West MSP Derek Mackay said: “Exam results day can be a daunting and nerve-racking time, and I think it is important that all students who are receiving results are supported with advice and guidance.
“If you get the results you are looking for, then that is obviously fantastic.
“However, if students do not get what they need this time round, then they can be assured that there are a huge number of options available and there is support and advice available to help you get where you want to be.
“Whatever the outcome, these results will be a beginning, rather than an end point.
“Skills Development Scotland are on hand to offer support and advice to students and parents on the next chapter.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all students the very best of luck.”
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has also urged everyone receiving their exam results today to contact the Exam Result Helpline if they need information or help.
The helpline can provide pupils, parents and carers with advice on clearing, resits, apprenticeships, college and university and what their next steps may be.
Mr Newlands said: “Congratulations to all those school pupils receiving their exam results today.
“School pupils throughout Renfrewshire work hard during the school year to reach this moment and I hope they get the results that they’re hoping for.
“Whether the exam results that pupils receive are better than expected or not, help is available from Skills Development Scotland.”
He added: “Pupils, parents and carers can call the Exam Results Helpline on 0808 100 8000 for advice on a wide range of issues, including finding out what their next steps may be.”
