Ex-club members Norrie and Alyson take home the trophy

Norrie Gibson and Alyson McGinnigle came out on top as they beat away close to 100 rivals for the Cochrane Castle Mixed Foursomes Open.

The club welcomed an entry of 98 players from 24 different golf clubs – as well as an ex-pat from North Sound Golf Club in the Caymen Islands.

The overall best score and winners of the Cuninghame Trophy were former club members Gibson and McGinnigle, both now at Cowglen, with a unmatchabl­e score of 67.5.

Having considerab­le course knowledge seemed to have served the players well.

Full result as follows: Winners – N Gibson (Cowglen) and A McGinigle (Cowglen) 67.5

Scratch-16: First: M Mcagreneha­n (Cochrane Castle) and A Armstrong (Mount Ellen) 71. Second: J Clark (Old Course Ranfurly) and F McPhee (Old Course Ranfurly) 72.5. Third: A McCabe (Cochrane Castle) and J McCabe (Cochrane Castle) 73.

16.5 to 32: First: D Mitchell (Cochrane Castle) and M Mitchell (Old Course Ranfurly) 71. Second: D McLaughlin (Cochrane Castle) and A Lauder (Cochrane Castle) 72. Third: M Wragg (Glenbervie) and M Holt (Caldwell) 76.

A club spokesman told Express Sport:“Thanks must go to the various sponsors of the event who supplied the prizes for nearest the pin at all of the par three holes and some of the many raffle prizes.

“These included Dundonald Links, Bowfield Country Club, Glasgow Airport, Liz and Alan Shearer, Cochrane Castle GC, W Ward Goldsmiths and A.T. the Salon of Johnstone.

“The organising committee would like to extend their thanks to everyone who helped in making the day successful, especially greenkeepe­r Lachie McGill and his staff for presenting the course in such fine condition.

“This competitio­n has been in existence since 1974 and it was extremely pleasing to see the many smiling faces who supported the event and we look forward to your continued support.”
