Stubbs: It’s still work in progress

-

St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs admits his side remain a work in progress but is happy with the strides they are making.

Saints recorded an opening day win over Dundee on Saturday thanks to Danny Mullen’s late strike – though Stubbs admits they rode their luck at times.

But he praised his players’ work rate and attitude as they ground out their first opening day top-flight win since 2006.

He said:“It is always nice when you are starting a season with that first win under your belt.

“For me it was a bit too open at times so we need to try and not let it become like that and control it a bit better than we did.

“I thought their attitude was great on Saturday. I thought there was a point in the second half where they could have went under but they kept at it and they kept looking to try and do the right things.

“I’ve said all along that this is a work in progress and we have got the best part of three weeks now to try bring in some reinforcements to help the players that are here. We do need to make the squad stronger.” St Mirren were last night finalising the details on a loan move for Birmingham Madsen.
