Stubbs hopeful Jones won’t be his last signing

-

Alan Stubbs hopes the arrival of Alfie Jones won’t be the last as he admitted another couple could still leave the club before the transfer window closes.

The Southampton kid has agreed a loan deal until the end of the season but with a fortnight left to add to his squad, Stubbs is keen for more players to sign up for his new-look Buddies.

Stubbs said: “It’s good news that we’ve got Alfie and it probably won’t be the last signing. I’m still hoping that we can do a little bit of business between now and the window closing – hopefully with more coming in than going out.”

Stubbs was delighted to add Jones to his side, revealing that he could go straight into the mix for Saturday’s clash with Aberdeen.

But he admits the deal had been in the pipeline for a number of weeks as Saints batted off interest from a host of sides south of the border to land their man.

Stubbs added: “I know there’s definitely been two other clubs in League One in England who were interested in him so I’m glad he’s decided to come here.

“It’s been going on for a few weeks now and from day one he has always given us the impression that this is the place he wanted to come to.

“One club offered him more money than we could but he seems a really level headed young man who knows what he wants to do.”
