Appeal in hunt for nursery vandals

-

Police are still appealing for help in tracing vandals who wrecked a Paisley nursery.

We r e p o r t e d on Wednesday that Glencoats Lodge Nursery had its baby room trashed cash taken during a senseless wrecking spree.

The thieves left a trail of destruction at the centre in Ferguslie Park.

They used crowbars to burst open a safe and steal children’s fundraising money, smashed holes through the baby room wall, and stole a laptop and iPads the kids play with.

Nursery manager Jessica Collin, 24, said: “We were all just shocked and disgusted that someone could do this. “The parents feel the same. “And it’s just horrible for the children.

“We have two front ent rances and they completely ripped through the metal over them with a crowbar.

“They made a really big mess and even knocked a hole in the baby room wall.

“Worst of all is that they stole the children’s money from the safe.

“We never keep cash on the premises but we had this money in the safe after the children worked hard to fundraise money for our garden.

“It was the children’s money.

“For it to all be gone is heartbreaking.”

The nursery was targeted sometime after lock up at 7pm on Monday night.

The repair bill is expected to be in the thousands after the vandals burst open doors, tore into walls and pulled the safe open to steal £600 in cash.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, said: “This is a despicable incident which would have been traumatic for both staff and the children to deal with.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious at the nursery between Monday evening and Tuesday morning then I would urge you to get in touch with police.”
