Woman denies ‘drink driving with kids in the car’
A woman is facing trial charged with endangering children by driving through Renfrewshire with three youngsters in her care - while she was five times the drinkdrive limit.
Ranjina Kaur Devine is said to have exposed an 11- month- old baby, a 22-month-old toddler and a four- year- old child to “significant risk of accident or injury.”
Devine, 36, was arrested after allegedly being caught while nearly five times the limit in Renfrew’s Kings Inch Road in April.
At a pre- trial hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court this week she denied driving her Vauxhall Astra Breeze with 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath - nearly five-times the 22mcg limit - and denied a second charge of driving the vehicle while uninsured.
Devine, of Clarkston, also faces a third charge of breaking the Children and Young Persons ( Scotland) Act 1937.
Prosecutors claim she exposed the “children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health” by carrying them “as passengers in a motor vehicle whilst” she was “heavily under the influence of alcohol, placing them at significant risk of accident or injury.”
At a pre- trial hearing on Thursday, Sheriff James Spy adjourned the case until next month for a further pretrial hearing and Devine maintains her innocence.
