Gym team ready to race and raise cash

Runners will take on Paisley 10K in aid of Accord Hospice

- Kenneth Speirs

Gym members are teaming up to hit the streets at tomorrow’s Paisley 10k to raise money for one of the town’s bestloved charities.

The members of Iconic Fitness, in Lawn Street, will be running for Accord Hospice after months of training.

Most of those taking part in the 10k are new to running but are more than ready to raise pounds – while losing some – as they aim for great finishing times.

Founder and managing director of Iconic Fitness, Fiona McLean, said: “We’ve chosen Accord because a lot of our members have been touched by how the hospice have cared for them and their relatives.

“So, for us, it’s really a heartfelt charity. We’ve raised hundreds for Accord in the past.

“We’ve got 35 people taking part on Sunday.

“I’ll be taking part too. I’m a marathon runner.

“I’ve done eight marathons and two World Series marathons as well.

“The World Series marathons are basically the harder ones.

“They choose cities around the world like New York, London, and Berlin, which is the fastest one.”

And with experience like that the Paisley 10k will be a doddle for Fiona. “I hope so, yes.” she said. “I could do a 10k in less than 50 minutes, but it’s really about taking the clients round.”

And if taking part in tomorrow’s 10k inspires runners to keep fit and healthy, Fiona will be happy to welcome them to Iconic Fitness, which has been in Lawn Street since January.

“I’m delighted to let all runners know that if they come into the gym with their medal after the race they will receive a complimentary recovery drink and their first month’s membership half price,” she added.
