Probe as firebugs torch Mercedes
Fire crew races to scene after owner raises the alarm
18.08.2018 Police are investigating after firebugs torched a car in a quiet Paisley neighbourhood.
The Mercedes A- Class was set alight in Braids Circle, in the Glenburn area of the town, around 11.20pm on Thursday.
Firefighters raced to the scene after a 66- year- old man discovered his car had gone up in flames and raised the alarm.
The vehicle was well alight when the crew arrived to put it out and it was left severely damaged.
After examining the car, investigators now believe the blaze was set deliberately and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, said: “We are investigating a wilful fireraising in Braids Circle around 11.20pm on Thursday.
“A car belonging to a 66-yearold man was deliberately set alight, while parked, causing extensive damage.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire and police are now investigating the incident.
“If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Braids Circle area at around the time of the incident, then we would like to hear from you.
“If you have any information at all in relation to the fire then we would urge you to get in touch with police.”
A Scottish Fire and rescue spokeswoman said one fire engine was sent to the scene.
She added: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 11.17pm on Thursday to reports of a car on fire in Paisley.
“Operations control mobilised one fire engine to Braids Circle, Carriagehill, where firefighters extinguished the fire.
“The crew left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
