Paul couldn’t get enough of‘the King’

-

Paul McCrae was one of Elvis Presley’s greatest fans.

Most fans were content just to collect records and souvenirs of their hero – but 22-year-old Paul went one better, we reported in August 1988.

He covered almost his entire back with a huge tattoo dedicated to Elvis and rock and roll.

To say that Paul, of Ferguslie Park, was obsessed with Elvis was an understatement.

One room of his house was covered with memorabilia of the late, great star.

The whole house used to be packed with pictures, tapestries and other memorabilia but his girlfriend Michelle wasn’t too keen on this.

For a time he even shared a house with Paisley’s own Elvis Presley impersonator.

And for the past six years Paul had been the undisputed Elvis mime champion of Scotland.

He said: “I look at his videos and copy the actions until I get them perfect. “I study the clothes that Elvis wore.” Paul even named his dog – a Jack Russell – Elvis.

He said: “Whenever I play Hound Dog, he howls and howls.”

Paul travelled the country attending conventions – and his proud boast was he hadn’t missed one for years.

He added: “There is no way that I would ever change my name to Elvis.

“But I might consider changing my name to Paul Presley, but that’s as far as I would go.”
