POISON PEN LETTER SON CAGED... AGAIN

Second jail sentence for hate campaign against his mum

- Ron Moore

A warped son who wrote poison pen letters about his own mother has been jailed for the second time over his hate campaign.

Defiant Joseph Carson, 60, was handed six months

in prison after he continued to write letters to Jane Carson, 82, and her former boyfriend Ronald Moreland, 79, despite being banned from contacting them.

Carson was convicted at Paisley Sheriff Court of breaking the Non Harassment Order order preventing him from contacting or approaching the elderly pensioners in the wake of the Erskine poison pen scandal.

Dumbstruck Carson reacted with anger and bewilderment at being caged again, shouting out: “That’s impossible,” as he sat in the dock shaking his head.

He also snarled accusations directly at Mr Moreland claiming he was “sick, sick,” and “ill in the head,” as he was led from the court in handcuffs.

Sheriff Mark Thorley told Carson: “Following your conviction last year where an eight month sentence was imposed for actions you carried out in relation to your mother and Mr Moreland, you were subject to an Non Harrassment Order.

“Subsequent to that you accept that you were in breach of that order.

“In my opinion there can be no alternative to a further period of custody and I will impose a sentence of six months.”

His mother Jane, from Erskine, who was accompanied to court by her former boyfriend Mr Moreland, bowed her head and silently dabbed tears from her eyes as she watched her son being sent down.

Speaking after the verdict, the smartly dressed pensioner expressed both sadness and pity for her son.

She said: “He is very lucky to get away with what he got.

“Unfortunately the anger he feels is all in his mind. “Joseph needs help. “But he just won’t accept it.” Mr Moreland of Clarkston, Glasgow, also voiced sympathy for Carson at being handed another stretch behind bars.

He said: “It is a shame. I don’t want him to go to prison.

“But he just won’t accept anything. He is deluded.”

Carson, who conducted his own defence during the trial, claimed he only wrote letters on his release from prison in January because he was continuing to “protect” his mother from Mr Moreland.

He was originally jailed for eight months in September last year and banned from approaching or contacting his mother and Mr Moreland for the next five years.

He had bombarded them with hateful accusations in an attempt to split them up.

Carson, of Machrihanish, Argyll, had also fired out missives to police officers, a church minister, and social workers with horrific claims about Mr Moreland abusing his frail and elderly mother.

He referred to him as “Mr Sleaze”, “a control freak” and a “worthless piece of dog poo,” over fears his inheritance was being put at risk after his mother started dating Mr Moreland.

Reverend Jonathan Fleming, Church of Scotland minister at Erskine Parish Church, said the hate campaign launched by Carson devastated those involved.

He said: “I have dealt with tragedy during my ministry, but the effects of this on parishioners have been both dreadful and awful.”
