Happy families flock to celebrate town’s gala day

Rain fails to dampen spirits

Not even the rain could dampen spirits as hundreds of families came together to celebrate Johnstone Gala Day at the weekend.

The big day out at Thomas Shanks Park, on August 26, was organised by Johnstone Community Council.

The annual gala celebrated the best and brightest stars in the community, including a performance by Zoe Tait – The Ladybugg. Among the many attraction there was a model train, fairground rides and stalls selling a range of tasty treats and unique gifts.

Charities also joined in the fun. Beatson Cancer sent all their best superheroes to the event – with Batman and Catwoman wowing youngsters on the day.

Little ones were also treated to face painting, balloons, rides and a bouncy castle.

Gemma Scullion, mum to threeyear-old Archie, was there on the day for some family fun and to promote her project, Renfrewshire Tots.

She told the Express: “It was a fun day and Archie’s highlight was definitely meeting Batman and seeing the bat mobile.

“We really enjoyed the dancers doing The Greatest Showman and Archie loved seeing the other kids up on stage singing and dancing.

“I found it a great opportunity to see what’s on offer in the local community thanks to plenty of information stalls with leaflets on groups and activities that I’m hoping to attend.”
