Housebuilders donate £1,000 to Guides

- Guides are delighted with cash boost

Housing developer Persimmon Homes has handed over £1,000 for Girlguiding camps.

The cash has been awarded to the Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm Ranger Unit to fund international and UK-based camps for Girlguiding members.

The donation is part of the company’s Community Champions scheme, which sees charities and groups applying for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

The cash donation means that more girls aged between 14 and 18 will have the opportunity to take part in national and international camps and jamborees.

These events offer the girls an unforgettable experience and a chance to meet Guides and Scouts from around the world. The activities and challenges help the girls to develop skills, enjoy the great outdoors and let their hair down.

Kim Cowling, leader of Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm Rangers, said:“We are thrilled to be chosen by Persimmon Homes to be one of its Community Champions.

“The money will go towards funding both national and international camps for our dedicated members of Girlguiding.

“The girls have been working hard to raise funds themselves, with sponsored walks, holding craft stalls, running tea tents and bag packing and we are keen to support their efforts whenever possible.”

Doug Law, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Scotland, added: “What a fantastic opportunity for these girls. Their commitment to fundraising has really impressed us so we’re thrilled to be able to offer our support.

“We would encourage those who have not been chosen to try again for a chance to become our latest Community Champion beneficiary.”
