Burgh in late rally for point

- Lesmahagow.........2 Johnstone..............2

Johnstone Burgh mounted a twogoal comeback to salvage a point away to Lesmahagow.

Jamie McKim’s side showed their grit and desire to preserve their proud unbeaten record in the league so far.

However, the game didn’t get off to the best of starts for Burgh as, less than a minute in, a poor clearance from their backline bobbled into the path of the Lesmahagow striker who made no mistake to smash home from close range.

Burgh piled on the pressure in a bid to get themselves back on level terms but didn’t appear any closer to finding an equaliser.

Meanwhile, the hosts were more than happy to sit back and look after their lead as they tried to hit Burgh on the counter attack.

The second half mirrored the first as straight from the whistle Burgh gave away a penalty.

Experienced keeper Fraser Wilson, drafted in at short notice to help the side out, guessed the right way but the power on the spot-kick was too much for him to keep out.

But still Burgh didn’t give up hope and substitute Lee Salisbury, returning from injury, gave them hope.

Salisbury took matters into his own hands as he connected sweetly after a driving run up the left flank to give the goalkeeper no chance.

The momentum was now with the visitors and they claimed an equaliser five minutes from time.

Salisbury was again central to the goal with another run down the flank, however this time he cut back to striker Ryan Officer to slam home from close range.

Burgh continued to go in search of another goal but despite their best efforts, they had to settle for just a point.
