Yob targeted family and kicked dog

- David Campbell

A cowardly youth racially abused a mum and her children in a Paisley park before cruelly booting their dog.

The shaken 42-year-old woman was forced to flag down a passing car to raise the alarm as the teenager hurled horrific abuse.

Police say the horror incident happened in a park close to Oakridge Crescent in the Ferguslie area of Paisley.

It’s understood the yob approached the mum and her young children at around 6.45pm on Saturday, August 25 and asked for a cigarette but quickly turned nasty.

He began hurling racist abuse at the terrified mum and her young children before kicking their dog.

The vile teen was chased off by the mutt but returned a short time later to continue his horror tirade.

The ordeal was only brought to an end when the frightened victim managed to stop a passing motorist who contacted the police.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 42-year-old woman and her young children were racially abused by a youth in Paisley’s Oakridge Crescent.

“The youth approached the victim asking for a cigarette then aimed horrific racial abuse at her and her children.“

During the course of the incident he also kicked their dog.

“The dog reacted and warded off the youth.

“However, he returned a short time later and continued to racially abuse the family.”

The spokeswoman added: “The victim flagged down a passing car and the driver contacted the police.

“The family were unharmed during the incident but were left badly shaken.”

Police Scotland said a report had been sent to the Children’s Reporter in connection with a hate crime.

If you are the victim of a hate crime you should contact police on 101.
