Paisley’s packing a punch

Sam boxes clever at Lagoon

Promoter Sam Kynoch insists Paisley packs the punch to put the town on the boxing map.

Kynoch, former chief of MTK Scotland, is set to bring his new venture Kynoch Boxing to the Lagoon Centre on Saturday, October 13.

It follows fast in the footsteps of a number of successful shows he has put on in the town in recent years – and Kynoch revealed he has no plans to stop.

Another packed bill, which will be the first under Kynoch’s name in Paisley, sees two title fights as well as a host more.

Thomas Dickson and Andrew Mackay will go toe- to- toe for the Scottish lightweight title, while Craig MacIntyre and Marek Laskowski are vying to get their hands on the Scottish super lightweight belt.

Govan scrapper Aston Brown is also set to enter the ring on what Kynoch believes will be yet another successful night of boxing in Paisley.

Kynoch told Express Sport: “I really like the venue and that is why we just keep on coming back.

“Paisley is a real hotbed for boxing right now and there is a real appetite and hunger for the sport in the town at the moment.

“The Lagoon gives us that perfect base as well as it is central to a lot of the west coast boxers that we have in our stable. They have had nothing but good things to say about the town and we will just keep on coming back.

“There are already a number of other shows in the pipeline at the Lagoon and I have signed an agreement for a further six shows so the hard work keeps coming.

“It is a really good night out, and without being too clichéd it is fantastic entertainment and I believe more and more people are starting to realise that.

“It is up to us, the promoters and the boxers, to help this sport grow. I am making that commitment to not only Paisley but the sport as a whole.”

Kynoch has previously worked with Paisley boxer Callen MacAulay, with the young scrapper appearing on an MTK card at the end of last year.

The promoter has since split with the promotion but says he is hopeful of adding more hometown boxers to his nights in the coming months.

He said: “We worked with Callen and he is a great young boxer.

“It is mutually beneficial when you have these local guys on the bill because you get the hometown crowd in and it also boosts their profile as well.

“We work for the boxers and it is about getting them on these bills and giving them that exposure, so of course we are always looking for talent.”

It has proven to be a busy year for Kynoch having got his own promotion off the ground in recent months.

And he admits he will be bursting with pride when he sees the boxers taking each other on under his name when fight night comes around in October.

He added: “Going it alone was something I had been keen to do for a while and I am looking forward to the challenge of making this grow.

“By the time the Paisley night comes around, it will only be the second show under the Kynoch Boxing brand.

“So it goes without saying that I will be feeling very proud when the time comes.

“Before then there is still a lot of planning to be put in place, but I feel Paisley is the perfect venue for it.”
