Groups set to celebrate with funding
Renfrewshire Council has received 11 requests for civic hospitality this financial year – at a cost of more than £12,000, writes Jack Thomson, Local Democracy Reporter.
The opening of the Fairy Garden and Superhero Trail at Glencoats Park on August 18, saw a contribution of £400 made to community group Pals of the Privies.
Meanwhile, a number of other contributions will be put forward at the Finance, Resources and Customer Services Board for approval on Wednesday.
Arrangements have been made for the unveiling of the May Donoghue sculpture on September 12, with a buffet lunch set to accompany it at a cost of £650.
Paisley Magic Circle have requested civic hospitality in celebration of their 80th anniversary. A finger buffet and welcome drink for around £ 100 could be arranged at a cost of £1,300.
A request has also been received by the council for civic hospitality from the Lord Lieutenant’s Office in relation to the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – at an estimated cost of £2,350.
The prestigious award is being given to three local organisations in the form of Crisis Counselling, I Am Me Scotland and St Vincent’s Hospice.
Cancer support group Rays of Hope is holding its first ladies lunch at the end of October and has invited the council to take a table at a cost of £400.
The official opening of Riverbrae School will also take place at the end of October and request has been made for civic hospitality in the form of tea, coffee and cake for 120 people. This is estimated to cost £600.
It has also been asked that a finger buffet is organised to accompany the launch show of the Spree within the High Street Hub – costing around £900.
The unveiling of a memorial stone to remember Edmund Burt – a heroic firefighter who lost his life extinguishing a blaze at Linwood’s R & W Paper Mills in 1968 – has been organised.
It has been requested a finger buffet is held at the Tweedie Hall for up to 80 people, costing around £950.
Quarriers have asked for a drinks reception to be held for its volunteers awards in November. This would cost £500.
For the 100th anniversary of Renfrew Sea Scouts, a celebration involving a threecourse meal for 100 people has been proposed – costing £3,000.
A small ceremony to mark the appointment of Renfrewshire Makar is due to take place in November at Paisley Town Hall.
To celebrate this appointment civic hospitality in the form of canapes and a drinks reception has been requested – at cost of £1,000.
