Undefeated Bishopton show rivals no mercy

-

Bishopton extended their unbeaten start to life in Tennent’s West Division 2 with a thumping 31-7 victory over Millbrae.

The Holmpark side are third in the table following their promotion last season.

They again produced a stunning performance to give Millbrae no chance whatsoever in what was an impressive display.

Bishopton forced a scrum inside the first minute as the pack trundled towards the line. After moving Millbrae back, Bishopton number eight Scott Baird picked the ball from the back and capitalised down the flank to open the scoring.

Catto’s conversion dropped short of the posts to keep the score at 5-0.

The early setback appeared to hand the visitors a spark and they quickly gained a penalty, only for the kick to drift wide of the posts.

However, they again came back on the counter and another penalty saw them kick to the 5m mark for a line-out. Millbrae quickly spun the ball out to their fly-half and he took full advantage of a defensive errort to score under the posts.

The conversion was good and put the visitors 5-7 ahead.

Newly promoted Bishopton weren’t about to let the setback get to them and they were straight back into attack mode.

Bob Moore seized upon a line-out and flew down the wing to run in his second try of the season. The conversion was short again as the score sat at 10-7.

Upon receiving the ball back, Bishopton then went about building through the phases in a bid to try and break down the opposition again.

Another scrum on the edge of the try-line hinted at the hosts again trying to force the ball home. put instead the popped the ball out to Moore and he smashed over the line for the third try of the day.

This time Catto got the extras as Bishopton took a 17-7 lead.

Minutes after the restart, the home side was dealt a blow as scrum half Ruari Taylor was put out of action following a late tackle. With Taylor out the game a reshuffle was in order and Peter Duncan came on to make his home debut for the club.

He made an immediate impact in defence and attack as he was able to spot the opportunity to make an interception before racing clear of the pack to slide under the posts.

Again, Catto was not going to miss as Bishopton took a 24-7 lead into the half.

The second half started as a fiery affair, with a brawl breaking out and two players receiving their marching orders.

But the game soon settled back into a pace of back and forther. A change up in the pack saw Gary Clark crash over a tired defence to round off the scoring at 31-7 to the home side.

Ryan Moore was able to pick up the Pride of the Clyde man-of-the-match award after another strong appearance in a Bishopton kit and captain Harry Seymour was in good form in picking up the C-R-Y Glue player of the day in keeping the team together and contributing to key periods of play.
