Church to host faith and arts festival

-

St Mary’s Episcopal Church is looking to beat last year’s record and celebrate hosting their biggest and best Faith and Arts Festival.

The annual event in Bridge of Weir last year attracted more than 300 visitors.

But this year the Johnstone Road church believes it is on track to attract more people than ever to the stunning exhibition.

The week-long event, which ends tomorrow, invites family and friends of the church to attend a free display of contemporary textiles.

The festival, which is now in its third year, features four unique cloaks made up of biblical texts, with the colours reflecting the cycle of the liturgical year.

The cloaks were created by Peter Privett using a mixture of machine and hand-sewing, dyed, painted and printed materials including beads, shells, bone and a variety of synthetic and natural fabrics.

Visitors are invited to touch and handle the garments to discover the texts and use the beads, bones and leaves for prayer and meditation.

The exhibit was opened formally by Councillor James MacLaren last weekend and is running alongside a selection of photographs from Kilmacolm Camera Club.

The event will mark the end of the festival and the last chance for visitors to enjoy the exhibition.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. For more information, please call Reverend Heller Gonzalez on 01505 872961.
