Meet PC Luke

Pupil who loves cops gets a chance to help officers with their enquiries

- David Campbell

A police obsessed 10-yearold boy was amazed when community cops showed up at his door for a surprise visit.

Woodlands Primary School pupil Luke Kennedy penned a charming letter to local officers asking if he could have a chat and they answered in style.

Community officers PC Innes Walsh and PC Gordon Aitken popped in to see him two weeks after getting his note and allowed him try on their kit and radios.

P7 pupil Luke has already set his sights on a career with the boys in blue and was over the moon at the visit.

Proud mum Lorna, 48, and dad Ian, 49, said Luke took it upon himself to contact the police.

Lorna told the Paisley Daily Express: “He came through the house and asked if he could have a stamp. I asked him what for and he told me he had written a letter to the police saying he would like to speak to them.

“I said they might be busy. I didn’t want him to get his hopes up. Everyday he would run home to check the letterbox to see if there was a reply.

“This week the officers appeared at the house. He was absolutely ecstatic.

“He got to try on the jacket and the hat. Gordon and Innes were so good with him, speaking at his level but still giving him lots of information.

“They explained how to join the police and he was amazed that there was a police college. Then they let him try the radio.

“I had to go down the hall and he spoke with me. “He was so happy to see them.” Lorna explained that Luke has always been interested in the police, dressing up in costume every year.

She added: “When he was four he wore a police costume for Halloween and he has worn one every year since.

“He just loves everything about the police. He likes that they help people do good.

All his toys are police, he has a belt and full rig out.

“The only connection we have in the family to the police is my mum’s grandad but other than that there is nothing.

“He just loves them. He goes down to Tesco with his friend and speaks to the security there.

“And we had him at the doors open event, so he saw inside the court, which he loved.”

Inspector Cassie Glass, from Johnstone community policing team, said her officers were delighted to pay young Luke a visit.

She said: “We were delighted to receive the letter from Luke and thought it was very fitting to surprise him with a visit from his local community police officers for Linwood, PC Gordon Aitken and PC Innes Walsh, who do amazing work in the local schools and community.

“Luke will never forget this experience, it’s so important to invest in our young people and encourage them with their aspirations.

“We hope to afford Luke the opportunity to visit our police office in the near future.”
