Buddies fail to capitalise on home advantage

- Paisley.............15 Strathaven.......34

Paisley Rugby Club came up short as they were held at home by a strong Strathaven side.

The visitors came flying out of the traps and never looked back, with Strathaven’s Jamie Murphy opening the scoring with a try inside the first two minutes.

Paisley responded through Euan Stuart adding on a penalty to bring the score back to 3-7, however Strathaven were still in control.

The visitors soon extended their lead, with pressure in the midfield seeing Stuart Alder intercept and go all the way in for another converted try.

The game soon settled down but Strathaven managed to bundle over the line for another try on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-21 to the visiting side.

A half-time talking-to saw Paisley looking a different side in the opening stages of the second half.

Gordon Powrie’s men impressed as they struck two tries and one conversion to bring themselves back in to contention in the second period.

But that was as good as it got for The Anchor side, with just one of their tries converted.

A drop goal from Gordon Moon extended the lead back up, while Euan Heggie’s late try settled things along with a conversion to take the final score to 15-34.

Paisley are now back in action on Saturday when they travel to Viewfield Avenue to face Lenzie, who currently top the table following their weekend win over Wigtownshire RFC.
