Renfrewshire takeaways are dining out on success after picking up top prizes at a national awards ceremony.

The talented staff at Woody’s Pizza scooped the title for Best Pizza in Scotland at the Dine In Awards, hosted by comedian Des Clarke.

The pizzeria beat ten other finalist to win the prestigious award at the glitzy ceremony in the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

The takeaway, that has stores in Barrhead, Paisley and Johnstone, was shortlisted as nominees by the public before judges made them the overall winner.

The business served up its classic margherita and chicken delight specials to a delighted food panel who voted the stonebaked pizzas their top pick.

Woody’s staff said they were “overwhelmed” to receive the gong and took to Facebook to thank loyal customers for voting for them.

Sean McCreadie from Woody’s told the Express: “We were totally shocked to receive the award.

“We are very confident in our pizzas but it was a great surprise.

“We can’t thank all our customers enough, it was them that voted to get us into the final.

“The award is testament to the hard work all our talented chefs put in.

“They are constantly trying to innovate and improve to make the best pizzas we can.

“We are so proud. We even had a lovely letter from Mhairi Black congratulating us. She’s just round the corner from us and has ordered a few times. It’s been a great honour.”

Also on a sugar high after scooping up two top prizes was ice cream shop owner Jennifer Cairn.

The mum- of- four, who runs Desserts Rush in Paisley, proved a hit with the public who voted for her to win the People’s Choice Dessert Award,

The store, which has more than 24 different flavours of ice cream and sells sundaes, waffles and crepes was voted as the top choice by loyal locals.

Dessert Rush was also awarded the runner up prize for Best Dessert in Scotland.

Jennifer told the Express: “We only opened in January so to come away with the public vote is amazing.

“To be a runner up for best desserts in Scotland is brilliant too, We’re so happy.”

Last but not least, Malatso Cafe scored big and picked up the gong for Industry Innovator and came runner up for Best Cafe/ Deli.

The High Street eatery said the award ceremony left them feeling “over the moon”.

In a post on Facebook, they wrote: “The thing that makes all this so much better is that it was all you guys that got us here.

“We didn’t enter into it, you guys did it for us and your votes got us to number one.”
