Groups can get off to a flyer with £25k

Airport’s FlightPath funding is up for grabs

- Kirsty McKenzie

Airport chiefs are urging community groups to get their ideas off the ground with the help of a funding boost.

Charities and organisations can apply for a £25,000 lump sum from Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund to help provide a lasting benefit for their area.

The money will be given to a charity or community group based in one of the areas – Renfrewshire, Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire – which currently fall under Glasgow Airport’s flightpath.

In order to be considered for the support, applicants must demonstrate positive outcomes in at least one of the three areas where the FlightPath Fund’s community investment is focused – education, employment and the environment.

This is the second year in a row the £25,000 support grant has been made available.

Last year, the Tannahill Centre in Ferguslie Park, Paisley, was awarded the five- figure sum to transform its popular community café.

The fund’s chair, former KPMG Scotland head Archie Hunter, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for a charity or community group from one of the areas we operate in to secure what is a significant financial contribution that will help them make a real difference.

“Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund continues to be a force for good in directly supporting a wide and diverse range of organisations across the west of Scotland.

“In addition to this lump sum, the fund has awarded more than £ 100,000 so far this year to 50 groups and charities doing wonderful work in their communities and often providing vital care and support to some of our most vulnerable citizens.

“Once again, I’d urge the many groups and organisations in the areas we serve, including those which have previously received FlightPath Fund support, to grasp this opportunity and submit an application.

“The £25,000 on offer really could make huge difference to the people they support.”

The Fl i g htPath Fund’s independent committee meets every two months to consider applications and includes elected representation from the local authorities.

The closing date for applications is Friday, October 26.

The Glasgow Airport FlightPath Fund’s committee will consider entries at the last meeting of the year on Friday, November 27, and announce details of the beneficiary group in due course.
