CHEER WE GO AGAIN

RYAN’S DETERMINED TO ROCK THE ACCIES

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren midfielder Ryan Flynn insists the side can’t revel in the praise following their recent draw with Celtic.

Instead, the former Sheffield United midfielder reckons the Buddies have to forget all about the point gained and simply take it week by week.

Flynn was restored to the starting lineup for the game against the Hoops and put in a trademark shift in the heart of the midfield.

Now the 30- year- old is only focused on this afternoon’s clash with Hamilton Accies.

He said: “Things change. We have to make sure we’re working hard and with the new gaffer we bed into his ideas and the way he wants to play.

“Last Friday showed that as we did really well. It’s just moving forward we have to make sure we do the same – work hard and execute the game plan so we get the three points.

“It was a good performance against Celtic but it was one point, this is a big game for us.

“The performance was good but I thought the atmosphere was rocking.

“The onus is more on us to create that, to get that performance. It’s maybe a little bit easier with the Friday night lights, the pitch was lovely and you’re playing against Celtic so there is a little bit more on the game.

“But this is a massive game for us. These are the games where we’ve got to try to take the three points. It’ll be a totally different atmosphere but we’ve got to make sure we carry that on into the game.”

Flynn had previously found himself benched for the defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle in Alan Stubbs’ final game in charge.

He admitted his disappointment at finding himself on the fringes of the squad under the previous gaffer, but now insists he is looking to nail down his spot in the starting XI.

He added: “If you were previously out of the picture it’s a fresh start. Most new managers say that and you just have to impress and try to get yourself in the team.

“You just want to play. You want to play every minute of every game, that’s not normally going to happen but that’s what you’ve got to aim for.

“You train all week but the reward is the game. That’s what you want to be involved in. I was disappointed at Tynecastle but I was delighted to be starting on Friday. I’m just looking to keep my performances up and keep myself in the team.”
