Mitchell is a cut above for charity
A youngster has raised £400 in honour of a hospice’s 30th anniversary celebrations - by growing his hair for 30 weeks straight.
10- year- old Mitchell Strachan raised the cash for St Vincent’s Hospice and became the first person since Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron to complete the 30 Challenge for the hospice.
The charity champ finally cut his locks last week at First Class Barbers in Johnstone.
Mitchell, who is a primary six pupil at Howwood Primary, said he was delighted to take in the challenge.
He said: “I want to raise as much money as possible for St Vincent’s, because the people who go there are very sick and need help.”
Proud mum Louise Strachan said she couldn’t have been more proud of her son’s fundraising efforts.
Louise, who is also a senior fundraiser for St Vincent’s Hospice, said: “I am so proud of Mitchell for being one of the very first people to not only accept, but stick out the challenge, especially dedicating so much time to it.
“This was extremely difficult for him, going on holiday during this time and taking part in football practice – when he sometimes was struggling to see through his locks.
“The 30 Challenge is a fun and lighthearted way that you can do your part to generate vital funds. We can’t do this without your support, so please, take part.”
