Couple toast 70 years of wedded bliss
Tom and Marion celebrate milestone
A couple who have been married for an incredible 70 years renewed their vows in front of their family.
Tom and Marion Corrigan first exchanged vows back in 1948 and went on to have eight children at their home in Arthur Street, Paisley.
They will mark their 70th anniversary - which is a platinum celebration- tomorrow.
They met through friends and would go to the dancing and pictures every weekend and they have been inseparable ever since.
Tom, 92, worked as a JCB excavator in Lanarkshire, where the couple are both originally from.
They were married at Hamilton Register Office and moved to Paisley 35 years ago.
Tom worked as a steward for Fereneze Golf Club, in Barrhead, then at the police club in the town.
Once her children were older, Marion worked as a part- time cleaner in Paisley Central Library in the reference section.
They raised eight children – Jim, 68, Ellen, 67, Ann, 66, Mairi, 63, the late Lyn, who was 60, Mary, 57, Pat, 55, and 53-year-old Jane.
Tom and Marion, 86, have 13 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren and they credit the success of their marriage to having such a large and caring family
Daughter Jane said: “They are very family orientated. We have such a big family and we take them out to different places all the time.
“My mum has dementia and my dad cares for her.
“We had their 60th wedding anniversary, then their 65th and now it’s their 70th.
“I feel really privileged because my parents are celebrating their 70 years. My brother is 68 and both my parents are still alive.
“We always celebrate my mum and dad’s birthdays and anniversaries because it’s a celebration of them still being here.”
Yesterday, the couple received a blessing at St Mary’s Church, in George Street, Paisley, followed by a renewal of their vows.
And their milestone anniversary was also marked with a family meal at Canal Station in Stow Brae.
Tom said: “I feel truly blessed at having been married to the love of my life for all this time.
“I hope that we have a good few years to go together, I could not imagine life without her.”
