“I’ll talk to St Mirren and see what they have to say. I would consider coming back because I love playing here and I’ve missed it. I even missed St Mirren when I was at Hibs.

“I left profession­al football and lost interest in it for a while, but I’d like to get back as a profession­al.

“I’m not a big-headed person, so I’m not going to say I could come back and do this and that, but I’d like to come back and do something for the team and the fans and, most importantl­y, myself and my family.

“I wouldn’t be coming back to muck about. I’ve said in the past that I’ve changed and I don’t want to give the gossip-mongers anything else to talk about now.

“When I left here last time I was angry for a while, but that’s water under the bridge.”

And return he did after impressing on trial that summer.

He scored in a friendly against Gretna before penning a two-year part-time deal.

He continued to improve when Gus MacPherson took over from John Coughlin, and struck against Airdrie in the Scottish Cup to take him past Yardley on the scoring charts.

But it would prove to be his last goal for the club.

A record of 72 goals over three spells is not to be sniffed at and Lavety was inducted into the club’s hall of fame in May 2013.
