Gym members are celebrating going the extra mile for charity after raising over £1,000 by taking part in the Paisley 10k.

More than 40 dedicated runners from Iconic Fitness stepped up to the challenge after months of training and raised £1,200 for Accord Hospice.

Founder and managing director of Iconic Fitness, Fiona McLean, said: “We decided to raise money for Accord because it is a cause close to a lot of people’s hearts.

“Lots of our runners have relatives who have stayed and so we know how much the place means to the community.

“We set a target to surpass the £400 we raised last year so to triple it really is a fantastic feeling.

“Everyone involved deserves a huge well done - particularly all the work our coaches and the training team put in to help the cause.”

While many of the runners who took part in the race are new to running, it didn’t stop them from putting their best foot forward for the Paisley hospice.

Mum- of- one Fiona, who led the team, said she was delighted to watch all her runners go from strength to strength.

She said: “We are very much a community orientated gym and it has been fantastic to see so many people of different ages and abilities join the gym and our running team.

“Our youngest is a 16-year-old marathon runner and our oldest is 66. In fact the last time they did a marathon together they crossed at the same time.

“I hope our fundraising 10k shows that anyone can come along, meet new people, get fit and even do their bit for charity.

“Next year I’d like to see even more runners cross the finish line for Accord.”

David McFadden, senior fundraiser at Accord said they were thrilled to receive the cheque and thanked all the runners for their effort.

He said: “Accord Hospice are delighted to have been partnered with Iconic Fitness for this year’s Paisley 10k.

“We were amazed that over 40 willing participants took to the roads in support of the Hospice and raised an incredible £1282.18 from this year’s event.

“A big thank you to all those who were involved and donated their time and moneys for the Hospice.

“It’s with the support of local businesses who come together in support of us that we can provide the first class care in the community. Get yourself down to Iconic to see what they have on offer at the gym.’’
