MSP Neil: We need cash for NHS staff

-

More cash must be pumped into health services to help staff meet strict targets, an MSP is demanding.

Neil Bibby called for action after nine key targets were missed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The board administers services across the west of Scotland – including the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Mr Bi b b y insists investment in staff will help cut appointment waiting times and queues for essential care.

He said: “We know our doctors, nurses and NHS staff do a terrific job and in a number of cases our health board is performing well compared to other parts of Scotland.

“The simple reality is that they are not being given the resources needed to meet the standards which Nicola Sturgeon is promising people.

“These are key standards include early detection of cancer, quicker treatment and better support for child mental health can save lives.

“But if we are going to give people the standard of care they deserve, we need the Scottish Government to pay for it.

“Like most people, my experience of the NHS is first class and I am grateful to the staff.

“They which have helped my family and me over the years.

“But we must constantly be striving for better and if we are going to set national standards, we need to fund our NHS properly.”
