Scouts still need your help

-

A Paisley Scout troop is still looking for help from Express readers after Storm Ali ruined its already damaged hall roof.

The 33rd Gleniffer Scouts are racing against time to replace the battered and leaking roof at their hut in leafy Stoney Brae.

The project, dubbed Raise the Roof, will cost around £28,000 and urgently needs to be completed to keep the 50-year-old building in one piece.

Gusts of almost 60mph brought by Storm Ali ripped off part of the already in poor condition roof – making it even more urgent for a new one to be put in place.

Simon Lieberman, 48, group scout leader with 33rd Gleniffer, said: “We are claiming on the insurance but it will not cover our full Raise the Roof target and we see little point in reinstating just a bit of the roof just to rip it off later.

“We want to highlight the dilemma we have with our young people’s meeting place and maybe help increase support for our fundraising as it has become a very more urgent matter.”

Mr Lieberman hopes that a big-hearted building firm might step in and solve the problem and help the young people have a wind and water-tight meeting place.

“If they were willing to do it free of charge, we’d be very grateful,” he said.
