Vandals trash memorial garden

-

School staff are clearing up after vandals smashed up their greenhouse.

The incident at Linwood High School occurred over the weekend.

Staff returned to school on Monday morning to discover the pupils’ greenhouse, which was installed as part of the Craig Hepburn Memorial Garden, had been targeted by vandals.

Sergeant Barry McNaught, from Johnstone police office, said: “This appears to be wanton vandalism

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to get in touch.

“Please call the nonemergency 101 number and ask to be put through to Johnstone Police Station if you have any information which may help us track down those responsible.”

The greenhouse was blown down in high winds in January 2016 but by October that year it was rebuilt thanks to funding from Glasgow Airport’s Flightpath fund.

The Craig Hepburn Memorial Garden was created in memory of former pupil Craig, who was tragically stabbed to death at the age of 19 while visiting relatives in England.

Since it was opened in the summer of 2014, it has gone from strength to strength.

Talented piper Craig, who was nicknamed Heppy, was murdered while in England visiting his uncle in July 2012.

He suffered multiple stab wounds after being targeted by Luke Elliott and Anthony Driver in a random attack as he walked home from a pub.

His friend, Connor Paton, who had made the trip south with him, was also knifed, but survived his injuries.

Elliott was caged for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years behind bars for murdering Craig.

Co- accused Driver was found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for 13 years. Ralston Commu n i t y Council’s bank balance stands at £2,145.

Members heard at a reent meeting that the increase in funds was due to the transfer of the administration grant from the Ralston Games account.

The annual accounts have been completed and submitted to the Renfrewshire Council.
