Five teens mugged

-

Detectives in Paisley are hunting three thugs who carried out a vicious street mugging involving five teenage boys.

The lads were waiting on a bus near Tesco, at Linwood, when the trio of teenagers punched and kicked them, demanding they empty their pockets.

Five youngsters aged between 16 and 18 were forced to hand over their personal possessions in the attack on Friday, at 10.10pm, close to the roundabout at Candren Road.

They were also subjected to vile threats.

The yobs, who are aged between 15 and 17, then ran off in the direction of Phoenix Retail Park.

None of the victims required hospital treatment, although all were badly shaken.

Detective Constable Grant Spy, who is leading the inquiry, described the attack as “vicious” and he is appealing for help in catching the muggers.

He said: “This was a random and vicious assault and robbery on a group of teenagers, who were waiting at a bus stop.

“We would urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact police in Paisley.”

He added he is keen to trace the driver of a red car, possibly a Vauxhall, which was passing at the time of the event.

Cops said the attackers were all around 5ft 9in tall. Two had short, dark hair, while the third had fair hair.

Detectives are carrying out inquiries in the community, canvassing householders and checking CCTV for evidence.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police in Paisley on the 101 nonemergency number.
