Disgusting yob spat on cop during rammy

Drunk thug kicked off at police outside counselling unit

- Chris Taylor

A drunk thug gobbed on a cop after turning nasty outside a counselling centre.

Edward Dolla, 44, repeatedly spat on PC Callum Bolton before kicking him during a rammy outside the RCA Trust in Paisley.

He was so aggressive officers had to tie his legs down to stop him lashing out.

Dolla admitted assault during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Colin Wilson told how he kicked off after he was asked to give his name.

He said: “Police attended the RCA Trust in relation to a male causing a disturbance.

“They observed the accused there.

“He appeared to be under the influence of drink or drugs.

“At the time of asking for details, he spat on PC Bolton.

“The accused was informed he was under arrest.

“Police took control of the accused and he kicked out. “Fast straps had to be applied.” Dolla began struggling with police during the row in Incle Street on September 13.

He had previously been convicted of a slew of offences – including a separate attack on police.

The thug was sentenced to 286 days in May after he ripped off his shirt, pulled down his pants and threatened cops with a guitar.

Defence lawyer Chris McKenna claimed his client’s behaviour stemmed from a drink problem and losing touch with his family.

He said: “He was under the influence.

“Clearly, these are serious matters of what can only be described as reprehensible behaviour.

“It was his decision to consume alcohol to excess.

“He has come out of prison with no support.

“He previously lost all his possessions in a house fire.

“The last thing he remembers before he started drinking was phoning his parents and estranged partner and becoming very maudlin.”

Dolla’s home was torched during a targeted attack in January.

A man, 51, was left fighting for life after he was trapped in the building in Queen Street.

Sheriff Seith Ireland insisted Dolla is a “classic case” of somebody who “enters his middle years and loses it”.

He added: “I’m keeping an eye on you.

“It is to encourage you that someone is taking an interest.

“This may or may not assist you in saying, ‘ I need to step up to the mark and behave myself’.”

Dolla, of no fixed address, has been placed under supervision and ordered to return for a review next month.
