Hammill’s disastrous debut

-

New St Mirren signing Adam Hammill looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines after being subbed just half an hour into his debut.

The former Barnsley winger, who only signed on Tuesday, landed awkwardly on his shoulder following a clumsy challenge from Aberdeen skipper Graeme Shinnie.

He was clearly in pain as he headed straight down the tunnel, with his arm in a sling, and was replaced by Ian McShane.

Saints boss Oran Kearney confirmed the midfielder will be sent for further checks but didn’t appear hopeful of a positive outcome.

He said: “We will send Adam for an X-ray but it isn’t looking too good.

“It’s crazy. He signed on a deal until Christmas and went straight into the team and showed promise.

“We were coming to the part where we hoped he would get on the ball and get us up the pitch and do a little bit of damage.

“I am disappointed for him, and about the injury.”

Hammill has become Kearney’s fourth signing since arriving at the club – and the manager admitted he had hoped he would be the last.

He added: “We thought once we got Adam in, everything would settle in.

“We are a month past the window, and most new players need four or five weeks to get up to speed, which isn’t ideal.”
